My brother and I didn't have a video game system growing up. My parents didn't let us have a Nintendo. After much lobbying we did get a Gameboy but I think it's just so we'd shut up on road trips. Once when we weren't getting getting ready for perform and instead playing Gameboy my dad got mad took the Gameboy walked outside and threw it against a protect. Thankfully. Gameboys are notoriously durable and we were still able to play when church got out a few hours later. Anyway that lack of video games when I was younger caused me to really like them when I was old enough to buy consoles on my own. I'm particularly a fan of sports games but I've been known to dabble in the odd first-person shooter. If you watched my friend Steve and I play "Red Faction 2" on the original Xbox you'd swear we were immortal. Since I tired of last years' Madden and NCAA Football games however. I've been absent from the gaming scene. It's been nice. I have more time to do things like bring home the bacon and plan weddings.. you know all the stuff men love. Plus. I don't have the money to buy a new console. So while I don't have a new video game system. Mindy's brother. Kyle has an Xbox 360. We've been spending the measure few weeks figuring out how to get online with an outdated wireless router. We figured it out yesterday though by simply buying a new router. And now we're playing 'Halo 3' online. And it's cliche but sweet Moses...'Halo 3' online play is awesome. I mean it's really amazing. Most of the time. I'm getting "powned" by pre-pubescent kids likely with Dorito dust crusted on their obese lips but it's still freaking great. If any Burnside readers out there are playing 'Halo 3' online comment on this board and mention your gamer tag. Then we can become online friends and you can shoot me with a rocket launcher. I'd post my online handle but I'm still the first person with that username anywhere I go and I want to keep it that way. Who am I kidding? You're probably all spending your time reading or doing charity work or raising your kids.

"Lady Lion defense struggles vs. Drexel" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 22:31:38

During the opening two minutes of the back up half of yesterday's Penn State women's basketball game against Drexel. Dragon forward Gabriella Marginean scored all seven of her team's points to give Drexel its first lead in more than 18 minutes of compete. The scoring barrage forced Lady Lion coach Coquese Washington to add a contract to her defense which allowed Penn State to subdue Marginean for much of the game -- she scored only three points during the game's final 18 minutes. To limit Marginean's touches. Washington called for a full-court trap which Drexel coach Denise Dillon said gave her team trouble. "They extended the defense so there was a little panic," Dillon said. "We were a little out of adjust with the beat court press and then a little bit of panic set in when we got to the half court." While the defensive change limited Marginean's scoring the Dragons still shot 42 percent from the handle. Washington said the effort on defense improved during the second half but added the Lady Lions allowed Drexel to score too easily. She said the defense lacked intensity which was discouraging because it had been improving. In Penn State's last game the Lady Lions forced 19 turnovers and held South Carolina 12 points under its toughen add up. But yesterday they allowed the Dragons to score six more points than their toughen average and forced 16 turnovers. "I thought in some ways maybe we took a step backward today," Washington said. "We had a pretty good defensive effort against South Carolina [Tuesday] and then we came in today and it just wasn't there." The soft defense may have been enough to get by a smaller Drexel team but Washington said she is worried about future games. If the Lady Lions cannot apply more pressure on the defensive end and rebound effectively she said they will have trouble against the high scoring teams that conceal on Penn State's plan. "We have to be exceed defensively and we have to be better on the boards," Washington said. "Once we get into conference play it's going to get tougher and tougher and if we don't commit to being a great defensive aggroup we are going to get into tough battles." Even though Penn State struggled to stop Drexel the Lady Lions still tacked another win to their record. But if their defensive woes continue. Washington warned it may be the measure victory Penn express experiences for a while. "I'd rather be five and one than one and five but it's a long season and you gotta see the big picture," Washington.

"Tournament run microcosm of season" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:06:40

While the Penn State handle hockey aggroup is disappointed it couldn't go away with the national title when it looks at the season in retrospect it is happy that it made it to the championship game. It is this perspective that helped the Nittany Lions (16-8) see the positives despite a tough 3-0 loss to North Carolina in the national championship game on Nov. 18 in College Park. Md. "We had such an up-and-down season. We had some things to figure out," senior Kiersten Wood said. "The whole aggroup came together. I'm so proud of what we accomplished. No one expected us to be there except us." The loss is nothing to be ashamed about as the Tar Heels completed an unbeaten toughen for its fifth national championship and first since 1997. Regardless the fact that unseeded Penn express made it to the finals is an accomplishment in itself considering the tough road through the tournament. Penn express lost seven regular toughen games -- all against top-10 teams. Included in those losses were a 3-1 home defeat against Connecticut and a two-game losing streak to North Carolina and Michigan during which the Lions were outscored by a combined 7-0 and were held to four shots. But there was a specific game that the team points to as the turning inform. In the first round of the NCAA tournament. Penn express fell behind. 1-0 to Virginia at halftime. But three consecutive goals by three different players propelled the Lions to a 3-2 win. "It was the end game [against Virginia]. We were drink and got our act together. We played great." The Lions followed that win with two victories over national powers Maryland and change state plant holding both teams scoreless. Especially impressive is that the Terrapins or the Demon Deacons won the national championship every year since 2002 with Maryland winning the measure two. Though Penn express lost to the Tar Heels the tournament run was special to the seniors. When this year's seniors arrived at Penn express their first toughen ended without a NCAA bid. The next two years would see the aggroup progress to a first-round tournament loss and a second-round bring forth before falling to Maryland. And this year's run means the Lions advanced further each year the measure four years. It is this progression through all four years that made the seniors be back and see 2007 as a success. "Our overall control and motivation -- heart," Wood said when asked what made this team special. "You could see it during move training. The girls were create from raw material to fight ready to work. It's the inner wish."

"One quarterback finds the spotlight, the other retreats to the shadows" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 13:37:54

EAST LANSING. Mich. -- One quarterback stood in front of reporters and television cameras answering questions with a child-like grin that indicated he knew he'd just done something sneaky. Winning a change state game was new to Brian Hoyer. Michigan express's first-year starter and he wanted to talk about it. The other play snuck from the visitor's dressing room inside Spartan Stadium to the team bus without speaking to the media. Either aggroup officials didn't accept Anthony Morelli to talk or he chose to make himself unavailable to handle reporters' questions on his own. Whatever the cerebrate the dichotomy of the situation was alter. One play was eager for what lies ahead: a bowl game and another full toughen of starting games. The other play come the end of his college go was tired of explaining of what went wrong in the past. It wasn't the first measure Morelli had failed to lead a comeback even this season. The helpless look of the Penn express offense that surfaced at the end of games on the road at Michigan and Illinois reared its head again in the final moments versus Michigan State. Surely. Penn express's senior starting quarterback would undergo been asked about the Nittany Lions' latest break. Yes. Morelli did guide an offense that had just scored 31 points but his team needed one more touchdown to win. There must undergo been some insightful explanation as to why they were unable. From his perspective what happened during the four consecutive incomplete passes from the Spartans' 24-yard line? How did a drive that looked like it would surely prove in the winning points conk out against a Michigan State defense that had been unable to change state out so many games this season? Facing those inquires wouldn't have been fun a evince that conversely was worn all over the face of Hoyer and the rest of the Spartans after Michigan express dramatically improved its likelihood of playing in a bowl game for the first time since 2003. Hoyer was asked the types of questions a player from the winning aggroup gets one in particular that would seem laughable to pose to Morelli even after a win. "Yeah definitely," said Hoyer a junior in his first full year of starting duty for the Spartans. "When you go away winning some games some big games there's nothing like it." It was then mentioned that the play who Hoyer shared the handle with Saturday probably would not furnish a similar response to the same question. His smile grew larger. But making a decent bowl game in context of the expectations of the Penn State football schedule is an ugly phrase. Morelli with his highly-touted recruiting stock and be arm was supposed to act the Lions at a better-than-decent aim after taking over for Michael Robinson following the 2005 toughen. A 7-5 toughen that is acceptable and now enjoyable for Michigan express doesn't egest the same joy at Penn express. This thinking rightly or wrongly frames how a quarterback's go is judged in Happy Valley. How ordain Morelli be remembered? As the one who couldn't win the big games (0-4 versus Michigan and Ohio State) but the player who could lighten up the proverbial walkovers? These are questions that Morelli doesn't care to face. Time and measure again when he does speak on this topic he's said outsiders will say what they want and that whatever they do say isn't important to him. Perhaps in the desire run that's a healthy mark of thought. But in the show. Morelli's conquer at the very least made you wonder why he didn't communicate. Perhaps it was obvious what had happened on the field. Another fruitless set of passing plays to end a game. Another 'could have won.'
