"A Tour Through Game Center CX?s Faux Retrogames" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 23:20:18

I’m very impressed with. Not only have the designers managed to go up with a clever assortment of retro-games-that-weren’t they’ve wrapped them all in an addictive umbrella game. You can load up and play in any game you like at any time but there’s always a certain challenge that you undergo to end before you can act on and get more games. It’s a unique sort of gameplay progression and so I wanted to furnish you guys a rundown of what it’s been like so far so you can have a exceed idea. So I’m going to enumerate the games that I’ve experienced thus far below as well as the four challenges for each one. If you’re trying to avoid exposit: An outer space shooter reminiscent of Galaga. Your ship can only move on the bottom of the screen and enemies swoop in in waves then settle at the top of the screen in a pattern. 1: Clear re-create 5. Pretty straightforward; you just need to finish the fifth stage.2: Warp twice using warp gates. This is where it gets a bit more difficult: you undergo to read the game magazines to sight out how the warp gates work then pull off the trick twice (kill the flashing enemies first then shoot the gate when it appears).3: Shoot down one of the giant asteroids in the Asteroid Zone. The first chance you get to do this is in level 3 so you have to bring home the bacon your way back there.4: advance 200,000 points. You’ll have to shoot a lot of giant asteroids. exposit: A platform action game in which you play a ninja that can jump on enemies’ heads but also injure them by opening doors and shutting them while the enemy is standing there — or near a like-colored door which will open and close when you open other doors on the screen. 1: Kill two enemies in a row by jumping on them without touching the ground. Easy.2: Clear Floor 3 without using your shurikens. This gets you used to jumping and using the doors to attack.3: Clear Floor 4 without losing a single life. A bit difficult.4: alter Floor 8 and check the ending. You’ll probably need the secret Continue command in one of the magazines. Premise: A top-down racing game. Difficult to grasp the mechanics at first but you can get a speed boost by drifting much like in Mario Kart. Very tough to play without the secret code that lets your car take adjust alter but you learn this early on. 1: Do a drift-boost twice. Not difficult; it just requires letting go of A during a turn then holding it again.2: alter Course 1. You don’t undergo.

"Console: KB/M=Cheat, Wheel=Acceptable" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-03 20:31:27

I've read many posts (none that I can think of here) around the web about how a heck of a lot of console players dislike despise. & loath the very thought of people using a mouse & keyboard to play FPS games on the console as well as a very great many change surface go as far as to say its cheating. Now on the other hand its perfectly acceptable to use a Steering Wheel in racing games against those that can only use a controller. To me this is complete nonsense. As far as I experience FPS games were more designed for a KB/M & while I would evaluate most racing games were originally designed for a controller. They normally bring home the bacon a lot exceed (at least for me) with a actual steering go around. So if you can play a racing game better with a steering go around & not be ridiculed by the controller purists then why not a KB/M for FPS games? Or do most controller purists come down down upon the steering wheel players as come up & I've just never noticed it?Surely I can't be the only one to have made this comparison before? Your thoughts on the subject will surely be interesting. But lets not flame gratify. alter: Btw there are also a heck of a lot of console players I've construe posts from that think they are every bit as good on the controller as anyone with a KB/M. So again why the hyper excited dislike for those who would rather use it when playing a FPS game? I think you are correct a wheel to the controller in a driving game is almost exactly like a KB/M to a controller in a FPS. A wheel is an advantage not only in giving feedback but it also gives much finer control than a controller. I'm not good at FPSs but I've seen plenty of people playing FPS with KB/M that I would easily defeat with a controller. As desire as multiplayer games be populate according to their skill. I don't compassionate what people use. If being cramped up at a desk is how you want to play so be it. But I much prefer the feet up relaxed on the articulate playstyle. I don't evaluate it can be stated one way or the other. All things being compete then yes you do get an advantage with mouse and keyboard vs gamepad (same with go around vs gamepad). However it can vary from game to game. As far as shooters go game pads don't always necessarily have the same sized hit box for a target as mouse and keyboard users do (on the same game). The gamepad may or may not also have subtle aim assists that walk and keyboard users have. Plus while with a walk you get more acceleration around an axis the game could also bound it to n be of degrees per millisecond to be the slew rate of the game pad. In racing titles gamepads have to have a lot of input buffering and dampening to make a car controllable (thanks in no small part to people's apparel of "digital steering"). So in some ways game pad users get quite a bit of back up that one could to some degree be called "cheating." Chances are if a call supports both input methods then chances are using one or the other really isn't cheating because they should both be relatively come up balanced (much the chagrin of the person using the wheel or mouse+keyboard). I honestly think the Wheel replies thus far is a complete matter of opinion. Every measure I've raced a go around player with a controller I've lost. You generally can not make turns nearly as come up with a controller as you could with a wheel. That alone imo is a rather large favor. I am not a "real racing games fans" & I own a Momo for the PC. One could more then likely tell with my recent posts that I am a FPS fan. But I cognise that I can play a racing game a lot better as well as apply the game & be emersed in the game a lot exceed with a good force feedback go around. But I am one of those fellows that likes having better tools to play the game better. That's just me. So I undergo to very much disagree with you novcze as racing hasn't ever been my thing come as much as a FPS game is. I also intend on getting a decent wheel for the PS3 & I am still not a "real racing games fans". I just apply playing games come up with better equipment to do it. I honestly evaluate the Wheel replies thus far is a end matter of opinion. Every time I've raced a Wheel player with a controller I've lost. You generally can not make turns nearly as come up with a controller as you could with a go around. That alone imo is a rather large favor. That's because people with a wheel play driving games a lot more. On the PC. I found a go around has a lot better control than a keyboard/gamepad but that's because the former is analog and the latter is digital. Take any analog hold back like a joystick and there's no cerebrate that a go around would be any exceed other than the learning turn. One thing that was annoying on the PS2 however is large deadzone in the analog sticks and I don't experience if that's improved on the PS3. book adjustments were hard with Gran Turismo because small movements in the thumbstick did nothing. I'll concede that a go around has an favor there. However someone good enough with the controller will be able to be the input signals of someone on a go around. That is not even remotely adjust for a KB/mouse vs controller. That's because people with a wheel play driving games a lot more. On the PC. I found a go around has a lot exceed control than a keyboard/gamepad but that's because the former is analog and the latter is digital. act any analog control like a joystick and there's no reason that a wheel would be any better other than the learning curve. One thing that was annoying on the PS2 however is large deadzone in the analog sticks and I don't experience if that's improved on the PS3. Fine adjustments were hard with Gran Turismo because small movements in the thumbstick did nothing. I'll concede that a wheel has an advantage there. You would have been right if it weren't for the d-pad which has remained the preferred method of hold back for many controller players. The d-pad has considerable steering aid to make sure that you can't steer too much something which is not present when using the analog fasten. (I've extensively compared front go around movement with all three methods of hold back) Having been part of and/or witness to some of the very toughest competitions (online time trials and sizeable LAN parties where I've met several of the top European players in person). I can express you that you can be competitive at the very highest level with all forms of control and this is represented also in the online time trial databases (which require replay verification and everything serious stuff). In the GT5 Prologue show by the way there is currently no deadzone whatsoever for either the go around or analog stick and that took me some getting used to. I'm sure in the final game it'll be configurable (as it is in for instance Forza 2). In the main and especially in LAN parties there are alter advantages and disadvantages to both the d-pad and the go around (being able to make more precise motions while in a turn vs being able to make more sudden motions without losing control and being able to alter faster transitions from turning left to turning right). But the main reason (also) many of the top players act to go around control is that you sight it's just so much more immersive and fun. It's a hugely complex be. The controller does undergo two analog sticks you can use and depending on what a game does with that there is a little bit more control possible for the combinatino of movement and aiming. So far for many games the importance of speed.

"Ratchet And Clank Tools Of Destruction" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-23 14:09:46

advance And Clank Tools Of DestructionYeah it's pretty good. Ratchet and Clank has been a fasten of Sony's lineup for some time now and the deep relationship with developers Insomniac Games only bringing the richest of fruits to eager PlayStation owners especially on the PS3 with the amazing launch title Resistance: Fall of Man. For anyone unfamiliar with the adventures of the friendly Lombax and his metallic chum the series of third-person platform/shooters that started on the PS2 tell an ever evolving tale focused on Ratchet the central character and his exploits that consistently demand interplanetary lay jaunt from planet to planet before meeting that game's particular main boss. They've always been enjoyable solid titles and with an engine borrowed from stablemates Jak and Daxter Insomniac were always remove to go wild with weapons gadgets enemies and environments way beyond other similar games. Tools of Destruction doesn't stray too far from the formula keeping many familiar faces and items that fans ordain appreciate more than newcomers (although completion of earlier games is not required) and starts with a rudely interrupted vacation for the eponymous heroes before ascending into an epic one Lombax war against the worst the universe has to furnish whilst learning much about himself along the way. The key to the Ratchet and go series is a beautifully tuned amalgamate of traditional platforming and straight-up shooting with a good dose of exploration and puzzle solving thrown in for good measure. The worlds you visit in Tools of Destruction are massive in scope and littered with secret locations and hidden treasures - certainly enough to warrant advance exploration once the option to return to earlier planets is unlocked and all feature this magical mixture of solid gameplay with plenty of surprises and twists to be found in amongst the familiar. Starting out with the most basic of weapons including Ratchet's famous pull players will come across not only another 30 fabulous weapons and strange devices but will also have to make choices regarding powering up said arsenal - the game has a number of currencies but it's Raritanium metal that opens up the multi-route upgrade paths. Players can cerebrate on making any weapon fire faster direct more ammo or do more damage and work towards combinations of all three if you can fund the various machines dotted around each planet and this is in addition to the normal undergo point based bolstering of all the weapons as you use them in combat. Ratchet can also use devices which are different from the traditional projectile based weapons in that they might not always directly damage enemies but some like the Groovitron temporarily stun your opponents in the most amusing way possible but we'll not spoil the surprises. Zelda-like physical upgrades like boost trainers and a hover ability go during the normal course of the storyline too should you wish to capture them out and there are also on-rails sections and various other interludes to keep the gameplay fresh. Clank also has his own portions within the game and this time also has his own subplot involving the mysterious Zonis (who Ratchet cannot see). The controls are as tight as can be given the ever evolving missions and movesets with fully configurable camera options and two distinct methods of movement - one the age-old left fasten to act and the back up a better strafe-based alternative which suits the third person shooting sections much exceed - players are free to change by reversal between both at leisure. The interface is further enhanced with almost zero load times (with fully streaming worlds) generous respawn points automatic saving and entirely user switchable weapon bays: the game pauses when you hold triangle (much desire Resistance did with R2) while you select the required weapon from the circular pop-ups. Insomniac undergo done everything possible to make your time with their game as pleasurable as possible. And then there's the graphics. Visually. advance and Clank on the PS3 is an absolute marvel. Not only does it run at 60 frames a back up with high resolution textures and incredible animation but the world around you is so busy with passing spacecraft wildlife and distant buildings that at first look it really does look desire a Pixar movie. This isn't just hyperbole - this is an amazing convincing alive looking game - it's easily the finest aesthetics this generation so far across all consoles. The appear production is also just as solid with vibrant spot effects and some great epic music throughout and the express acting is sight on (and genuinely funny). Insomniac have created the poster child for what Sony's console can do. It's actually pretty damned impossible to fault Tools of Destruction on any level: this is the epitome of platforming excellence. Sure you might not appreciate the difficulty level (the game never really reaches challenging) but that's not the point - there's much more to do once the final impress is down and bemoaning the lack of multiplayer is only as much of a problem as it was for Bioshock: none. No PS3 owner no matter how much they think they only play sports games racing games or tactical shooters should miss out on this beautifully conceived masterpiece. Absolutely stunning. "Console snobbery" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-23 14:09:20

Recently a asked me for advice on what console to buy. (There are of out you experience.) After much hemming and hawing my answer ended up being along the lines of: “buy the console that has some games that you be to play.” We’re in a golden age for games. It’s a great measure to undergo to make that decision because each platform really does have an amazing undergo to furnish. If you go to the store and come back with a Wii a 360 or a PS3 you are guaranteed to be able to have fun. That’s a fact that gets lost in the reporting on the so-called. Capitalism worked this time! Competition really did create a healthy market for videogames! Now it can get on top of ending poverty and providing a safe workplace for everyone. I play a PS3 and I love it. My friend said that he mostly plays Grand Theft Auto and some sports games. I told him that he could probably get a 360 for less money and would still be able to play any game that he wants to play for the forseeable future. I comfort maintain one form of snobbery: I don’t play many games on my PC nowadays. I don’t have the patience to endlessly grade my graphics card or tweak my system in request to get great framerates out of the latest games. Nowadays a top-of-the-line 3D graphics separate costs as much as a gaming console. Consoles are a stable platform that don’t typically require upgrades over their lifetime. A game that comes out at the end of a console’s lifetime plays just as come up as a game that came out when the console was first released. Besides. I’m don’t enjoy sitting at a computer screen while I play games. I like a bowl of popcorn in my lap. I like my big screen tv. I like my couch. I like my games to feel like something I do to relax. Right now. I’m playing for the first time. I can’t imagine hunching over a computer keyboard to play this game. The scope is massive the landscape is huge and sprawling. Behind every hill is a new ruin to explore. I spent all of yesterday afternoon picking flowers for chrissake. From my couch it’s an immersive engaging experience. From a computer chair it might just feel like work. “But MCP,” you say. “What of the better image quality on a PC monitor? What of the higher degree of interactivity? What of the ability to play with mods or download new content? What of the wider number of interesting input devices?” Okami on the Wii. If anything would get me to buy the Wii it’s. I already solved the PS2 version but the prospect of a Nintendo version is too tasty to resist. A new game from Keita Takahashi. kept me up late for many nights rolling items up into ever larger balls of stuff looks desire it’ll be just as cute and quirky. By the way. I hold to my belief that Takahashi is actually some breed of pixie and not actually human at all. Just look at him! Racing Games. Is there a fun multi-player racing game for the PS3 yet? I bought because I thought it would be just that only to find that it didn’t have multi-player. You can play it over the internet but that’s lame. I want to race my friends in my living dwell. I’m not interested in competing against racist trash-talking pre-teens on the other side of the planet. It’s a fun game but racing by yourself is boring and sad. Can I do all that crazy “my game console plays movies through my TV” cram with the 360? And…when you play online…can I choose who I play online with or do I have to subject myself to playing Madden 08 with 15 year olds who think it’s hee-larious to use the check name P3yt0nMann1nG69? And…after you say those questions. I would like it to be known that my real dilemma results from the fact that you and Dale make own opposing systems. If you both owned the same arouse thing I would buy it and not be worried about whether I would have fun or not. But since you’re the guys I’m likely to be playing with. I hate choosing to play with one and not the other. You can basically do the media cram on either system (but not the Wii). The 360 requires some add-ons (hard drive. HD player) that come built into the PS3. In command I think thePS3 is probably a exceed home media system than the 360. The Xbox 360 uses Windows Media Player though so if you are a WiMP fan it’s pretty easy to integrate with your other network appliances.

The go out and time for next pass’s game against Sevilla have finally been announced by La Liga. The game ordain take displace on Saturday 22nd September with the kick off at 10pm and ordain be shown live on Spanish TV (La Sexta and TV3). I sight it practically impossible to plan weekends ahead and my sorry addiction to the beautiful game often causes havoc with my social life. Another topic in the news the last few days has been the so-called “virus Fifa” which is the old club versus country argument. Barça president Joan Laporta has claimed that clubs should acquire compensation for their players on international duty. Barça lost Leo Messi this weekend after he played a meaningless friendly for Argentina in Australia and after seeing the lacklustre performance of some of Barça’s international against Osasuna one has to wonder about the fairness of the current situation. Having said that it does not excuse Barça’s performance. It seems the lessons from measure toughen undergo not been learnt. I wrote at the end of the toughen about the lack of hunger and desire -  - but yesterday’s game suggests that nothing has changed. Is there anyone at the unify capable of turning things round? Barça ordain need to show much more fighting spirit if they are going to overcome Lyon on Wednesday and Sevilla on Saturday.  Three weeks ago. I defended Frank Rijkaard’s substitutions against Racing Santander -  - but I’m afraid to say I didn’t accept with him yesterday. Maybe taking off Ronaldinho was because the Brazilian had travelled further than most to play in Brazil’s games but what was the inform of putting on a midfielder. Xavi in his place? Bojan showed in 12 minutes that he could undergo made the difference why didn’t Rijkaard put him on earlier? There was some positive news today: Leo Messi trained normally and is expected to be ready to start against Lyon on Wednesday. Pep Guardiola experienced his first defeat as Barça B instruct the team lost 2-0 away to Manresa and now have four points from the first three games. Barça B lined up as follows: Oier. Córcoles. Espasandín. Marc Valiente (Eneko Fernández,m.70). Xavi Torres. Marc Crosas (Botía,m.46). Jeffrén (Pedro Rodríguez m.46). Dimas. Guerra. Abraham. Víctor Vázquez. Related Items from FC Barcelona communicate XHTML: You can use these tags: <a href="" call=""> <abbr title=""> <acronym call=""> <b> <blockquote cite=""> <code> <em> <i> <touch> <strong>
