"Your favorite puzzle games..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-12 04:50:44

What are your favorite puzzle games ?Games that require a bit of brain and reflection ?affix´em if you like them. My list:Myst seriesMonkey Island seriesGrim FandangoPenumbra God yes!Broken SwordBeneath a Steel SkyMonkey Islands. The Dig. beat Thrott--- Sam & -- all those classic inform & clicksDarkseed - less classic and likely with good reason but I loved it when I was a kid.7th Guest11th HourHeartlight (boulderdash create - by Epic of all people)Another World--# Both of these need some platform skills as well as brainsFlashback -----#Lemmings! Also not completely a puzzle game but.. speaking of LucasArts there's this one overlooked gem that Brian Moriarty did for them apart from The Dig. It was called appear. Hands-down the best bet I've ever played. It was amazing and the gameplay was unheard of back then -- you literally solved it through music. I still can't forget how poignant and human its story was change surface thought it's been years and years since I've touched the bet. Heh looks like we're including everything that has puzzles eh? Well. I'll leave out adventure games but I do love many of those and go with straight brain-teasers and falling block-style puzzles:Falling/Rising block puzzles (basically anything remotely similar to Tetris)Tetris contend/bedevil League/Panel de Pon/etcToo many names for this game but thankfully it's being known as Puzzle unify fairly consistently now. It's about the most fun vs puzzle game I know but only against someone of equivalent skill (and there is a HUGE margin of skill in this bet). MeteosSomewhat similar gameplay which may be why I desire it but on the other transfer it's really satisfying to end up blasting every block on your check in one massive combined arise. Good times. And for hit teasers:Adventures of Lolo --insert number--Gotta like the Lolo games. Really hard after a while though And here's a few more I don't really conclude like writing blurbs about:- The Lost Vikings- Lemmings (as mentioned)- blast 'n Ice (obscure sequel to Solomon's Key for Nes)- Troddlers- move (more recently for PSP and soon DS)- Hyperspace Delivery Boy- divide's Challenge! Old LucasArts cram of course. Also the Quest for Glory series. And like the interface or not the Myst series has some of the most challenging puzzles ever to alter my computer as well as one of the most detailed game-worlds I've ever seen. Some not mentioned yet: - surprisingly awesome arcade/strategy/puzzle choose of gameSome of the Flash based point & click games can be sort of cool nothing big but fun for what they are: .. ones I like (just type the label in the examine bar) are the "Submachine" series and "el complo" (a 'change' type puzzle). Other PnCs I desire are the Hapland series (get them ) and other "change" type of puzzles (. I desire "change RPG"). There's a funny ascii platform puzzle bet called. Other choose of cool radiate puzzle games are. .. there's so many of them really. Some of the homemade AGS assay games undergo some good puzzles in them too.. ones that are highly ranked desire Pleurghburg & prepare 1. 2Interactive Fiction can be really good for puzzles too. Some really great ones are in Trinity. Rematch ("one-move" puzzle). fasten & Key (brilliant puzzle and funny). Edifice (language puzzle is awesome). Get a clutch. I-0 (real world style puzzles) Yeah there are some really great AGS games. The Trilby series by Yahtzee (my favourite being 'Seven Days a Skeptic') are good also 'Spooks' a kind of Burtonesque/Lucasarts game. Obviously all the Lucasart classics are great and process I remember appear too. Such an atmospheric bet. I comfort think 'Grim Fandango' is the greatest assay game ever made and the strongest argument for games as art. Revolution had plenty of goodies too with my favourite being 'Beneath A Steel Sky'. Alot of people seemed to like 'The Longest jaunt' too. Personally I thought it was terrible but I guess you can't gratify them all!I really wish that one day adventure games make a comeback (I'm counting on YOU Tim Schafer!). Its such a wonderful genre and a nice dress of walk from most other games. Big fan of the already mentioned. Sequel is fun too. Similar in write of puzzles is though the bet's setting is incomparable. Lucas Arts adventures go without saying. I recently played express Tale Games' ; featured some fun puzzle moments as well. Also if you're into Penumbra try. Similar puzzles similar vibe similar stealth and similar dread mechanism. Ok. I'm in:Myst 1 & 3(Exile) - A bring together of my all measure favorites. I got impatient with Riven and am currently trying to get into Uru but so far it's not grabbing me (. must.. not.. peek.. at.. walkthroughs...). Shivers 1 & 2 - Loved them. The 1st because at the measure it just struck me as so unique and the 2nd because it involved a fictional bind whose music I actually enjoyed listening to. Sentinel: Descendants In Time - Excellent and very Myst-like in its logic/mechanical/color/sound oriented puzzles. I made pages and PAGES of notes for this bet... if anyone wants them though it'll be ya'. But more on the adjust. bedevil side:7th Guest - One of the first games I ever played. .. and replayed. I comfort haven't beat that damned slurpy-virus-in-the-microscope bet!!!Jewel Of The Oracle - Nothing but puzzles the difficulty of which differ tremendously making it a mixed bag. One of the puzzles I solved by writing a QBASIC schedule which took over 24 hours to end. .. good times... Pandora's Box - A handful of puzzle types (image/picture/cause) but lots and LOTS of them. I comfort haven't completed EVERY puzzle change surface though I've finished the game twice. So. I comfort go approve and try unsolved puzzles now and again. Safecracker (the old one (2000 ?) not the new one) - Kind of simple but I comfort liked it. Haven't replayed it yet but plan to one day. And I'd like to try the new one too. I absolutely adored that bet as a kid. You can imagine my dissapointment when I encountered a bug with one of the ATM machines that made it impossible to complete the bet. I can't believe no one mentioned Sanitarium that's one of my favorites along with Grim Fandango. Blade Runner and Zork: Grand Inquisitor (not mentioned also). Also a worthy have in mind is Nightlong it heavily relied on puzzle solving and minimal NPC dialogue. Also not completely a puzzle bet but.. speaking of LucasArts there's this one overlooked gem that Brian Moriarty did for them apart from The Dig. It was called Loom. Hands-down the best game I've ever played. The original Myst and the 7th Guest are the only games of that sprawling genre that I've ever had the patience for. I loved Uru too at least as much as the other two but since I was in it more for the environments and atmosphere than anything else I probably GameFAQ'd my way through at least half of it. Oh yes. I could have done with a longer game. appear managed to displace me in and relate to its characters on an emotional level which is a pretty rare thing for a bet. Realising that the bet had ended after that final puzzle made me comprehend inside. I'd consider the easiness of the puzzles a good thing though. It let me enjoy the narrative far more than I otherwise would have.* (*Heh. That's probably because of The Monkey Island titles. Even though I love them to pieces they had some of the most mind-twistingly conceal puzzles ever.) Just finally got around to playing The Longest Journey recently man that was an amazingly good game. I don't think I have found exceed storylines.
