Mutoni is on his way back from Cali today. Even though the Lakers were far from impressive after the first quarter last night and they are heading into an environment where the home fans will be bloodthirsty for a championship. L. A still has one advantage: health. Perk did not play in game 5 and that allowed Pau Gasol to grab rebounds and stuff. Right now it looks like Perk will.
“It’s a good question,” Perkins said of whether he could play the rest of the series. “I couldn’t tell you. I can raise my arm but there’s just a lot of pain right now. I don’t know if I can take a hard hit on it. When we get back to Boston I’m supposed to get an MRI on it and then we’ll know more about it.”
“Well. I can still direct up the trophy,” Perkins said. “It’s very disappointing. It’s not often that you get to the Finals. This is a very important game but if you can’t play then you can’t play.”
drxslam says:The Lakers have been playing without their starting center for well half the season. So I guess winning one game out of three without your starting center shouldn’t be considered such an impressive feat.
Arthur Rimbaud Jr says:Perkins isn’t the C’s center. He’s their starting cater forward. That’s the reason why KG isn’t the best pf of all time. He plays center. Just like Timmy Duncan.
Lz - Cphfinest3 says:Some truth in that Arthur. Still KG is more pf than Timmy. Boston will win in 6 maybe 7 as was my original prediction. The only thing that worries me is that Kobe hasn’t had a defining moment yet (his game 3 was very good but not really defining).
Lz - Cphfinest3 says:Jukai; imo KG is half pf half c. Timmy 2/3 c 1/3 pf. Perk is a center or a PF in the Otis Thorpe mold - choose your poise didn’t say that I agreed completely with Arthur’s statement. Eboy that’s exactly what I’m knocking KG for these days superstars are supposed to up their game in the finals neither Kobe or KG has done that. I’m really disappointed in KG to be honest instead of taking Pau/Odom to the rim every time down he’s passing out relying on that jumper. He should be getting Pau in foul trouble not the other way around.
says:Well what constitutes a cater forward to you. LZ? I’m not saying you’re wrong but besides I think Garnett is 75-85% power forward and Perkins could not be more of a center if he tried. Garnett is more effective facing the basket leans on his jumper instead of always posting up likes being at the high post prefers rebounding farther away than under the basket… Kendrick Perkins has two defense modes: post mode and put back mode. I’m just confused here.
Lz - Cphfinest3 says:Constitutes a pf. I would say Karl Malone - he was as pure a power forward as I’ve seen. Garnett does a lot of the things that you see in a bear on. I think Bill Russell would agree that a center’s foremost job is to protect the paint/rim Garnett does exactly this. Again I’m not so much talking about his offense hence the ½/½ argument. Perkins doesn’t fasten the d the way a c should do as I mentioned I see him more as a Otis Thorpe type power forward. Anyways maybe it’s unreasonable to discuss this as almost no teams play with a typical center these days.
says:Yeah it’s also about ability… I actually have seen Perkins try to anchor the defense more than a few times this year often with hilarious results. He’s too slow and often surprise is forced to foul. Doc probably told him to cut the crap.
Arthur Rimbaud Jr says:MJ once said Hakeem was a small forward playing center. Great players are versatile unlike say. Otis Thorpe or the Oak. Depending the people he plays with. KG can play anywhere in the froncourt from sf to center.
Lz - Cphfinest3 says:Completely agree Perk (although a nice hardnosed player) just doesn’t have that presence you want in your c. The result of him trying to anchor the D is often as you put it rather comical. There’s a Pistons discussion going on at the “Game 5 live notes”-post if you’re interested. I’m getting tired of swithing back and forth and it’s kind of a slow day here so would be nice with some company on there sure TAD and B. Long agrees.

says:There is no doubt that the Celtics can get the job done in game 6 without Perkins. Garnett will have to stay out of foul trouble and get the rebounds that Perkins would be getting if he were playing. Of course anytime you lose a starting big man it could be time for concern. However in the Celtics case they have ol’ reliable in PJ Brown coming off the bench who has proved valuable over the course of the playoffs. If he can manage to to compete a solid 20 minutes then the Celtics could be lifting the trophy at home Tuesday night.
Big Boss says:Leon Powe!!! Cant stop him lol… I aint worried about perk he’ll be alright. But you Laker fans have to worry about a Celtics team that feels pressure now… approve in Bawston too. The Celtics aka Beantown Bandits tomorrow. Over
says:[…] If the Lakers ever caught a break it’s with the injury to Kendrick Perkins. Perk has been really under rated on this Celtics team among the “Big 3″ when in fact he may be the most useful player of them all. You can call him a role player if you wish but he is very strong and dominant especially against a team like the Lakers. Perkins may be injured and have to sit out game six though. […]
rand33p says:as a laker fan i wish the celts DO feel pressure… the lakers gotta step it up from the game 5 performance if they wanna win game 6… but i think game 6 is a must win for Boston as well. if it goes 7 the lakers win Boston gonna be too tight
HIDAMAN says:If the Celtics were as good as everyone thinks and the Lakers are as bad as everyone is saying. It would have been over allready. Any one who lets go a 24 inform lead in the big show wont win it all then again anyone who lets a team score 41 point in a quater aint exactly what i label a chamionship team. Are the Lakers are getting lucky & staying alive? Or is the luck on the other team? I guess we will have to see. I say Lakers take it on game 7
Alex says:Perkins will play. It was a another NBA trick (forgive) to get the 6th game into Boston. Lakers really should have lost game 5. Anyone who watched the game or B-ball knows. My only suspesion why perkins will play has to broach with the Vegas line changing. Someone knows something. As for all you betters (Tim Donaghy) the Celtics have been a cash cow for everyone. The reason being; they have been underdogs ever since the begining of the season. You see they opened up with 75 to 1 odds versus the Lakers 35 to 1. Everyone know that the whole West Coast likes the Lakers so why not bet on them to win the Championship. Apparently no one betted on the Celtics hell they had the worst season last year. This is my point. Vegas wants the bettor to be confident in the lakers thats why they were favored this series. They want the bettor to bet on the Lakers regardless just so they can recoup there money and keep the money already locked up from the beginning. Anyway hope you enjoyed my theory.
